URUNGA SURF CLUB COURIER SUN 14 SEPTEMBER 2005
The familiar red and yellow flags reappear on the beach this Saturday, and everyone is reminded to swim between them. The new season promises to be another busy one both in the competitive arena and the usual patrol duties. Club Captain Geoff Bracken is keen to hear from anybody who’d still like to put their names down for patrols. The roster is reasonably strong this year, but if you could help as a first aid, radio or patrolling officer, we’d love to hear from you (66556071).
Membership of the club offers people the opportunity to enjoy the beach lifestyle, participate in surf competition, or just enjoy the social scene at the club while performing a very worthwhile voluntary community service. If you are interested but need training all enquiries to Chief Instructor Denis Forbes (66556859) are welcome.
The club would like to publicly acknowledge the tremendous support of all our sponsors. In difficult times they consistently dig deep and allow the Club to perform a valuable community service. Without your support we would be unable to patrol the beach. On behalf of the swimming public – THANKYOU!!
The new Patrol rosters have been formed and all patrol captains should be contacting their patrol members shortly. If you don’t hear from them contact Geoff Bracken (6655071).
A reminder there is a Senior Club meeting this Thursday night at the Surf Club from 7pm, and all members are welcome to attend.

TOUCH FOOTBALL
Touch football continues every Wednesday night from 6pm for all Surf Club members who’d like to improve their aerobic fitness. All members are encouraged to attend.
A big roll up last week saw 2 games the order of the evening. On field 1 the fast men congregated, and Nick Hiller and Prince found the going tough. Mick Smith, Mark Davidson and Brett Caller carved up the opposition, and with Steve Campbell dictating play John Vanlook found himself on the losing side again!
Field 2 where the players prefer finesse to speed (or so the slow old men tell me!) it was more like a game of cricket. Both Declan Horan and young Alex Gale had hat-tricks (of dropped balls) and the “fox” made sure they knew! Steve Brazel tried to hone in on the opposition youngsters but only a few phantoms stopped Kate Bastick and Tim Hanthorn from leaving egg on his face. Young Tim was the standout player of the night, his sidestep carving up the defence of Noddy and co. and setting him on length of the field runs. Big Jarrod actually stretched out for a change and even the mercurial Tony Shields couldn’t run him down.
The proposed “Rep” game was vetoed and after a record turn out at the Table of Knowledge it was decided that a Grand Final party was more everyone’s cup of tea (or should that be schooner of New?). Details are still a bit sketchy, but all will be revealed this Wednesday.
Discussions at the table this week saw Braz very worried by the new ‘terror laws’. The general consensus however, is unless he starts wearing a tea towel he should be safe!
Registrations are again due, and for insurance reasons all players must be financial members of the Surf Club. The cost is $30 for school kids and $50 for adults. Money and forms need to be signed and returned by the end of September. For more information ask Noddy. Until next week – happy touching!

COURIER SUN 21 SEPTEMBER 2005
With active member involvement continuing to grow at Urunga SLSC there was a
need for the club to accommodate the fitness of its new patrolling members.
The club is currently undergoing much needed renovations with an extension
and an internal face-lift. Wattyl Australia in conjuction with their premium
outdoor product Solagard has joined with Urunga Thrifty Link Hardware in
generously donating approximately $1,000 of paint for the new clubhouse
renovations.
Greg McPhee, proprietor of Urunga Thrifty Link Hardware approached Wattyl
for their support, and Wattyl State Sales Manager Dion Baker delivered the
goods on a recent trip to the Coast.
Wattyl©ˆs continuing support of Surf Life Saving Australia is evident with a
range of promotional activities and support particularly leading up to the
100th Anniversary of Surf Life Saving Australia in 2007.
Mention must also be made to the many club members who have volunteered
their valuable time to carry out the works. The entire club will benefit
from the new extension for years to come.
