URUNGA JUNIOR SLSC MINUTES 16th September 2008

General Business:
Advert for Urunga carnival to go to Advocate if possible.
Pool booked & confirmed no price as yet for proficiency day

Care basket to be made up for Luke Thorn eg comics, cards etc from the Urunga Juniors for a get well soon.
Possible supply of raffle baskets from staedtler to be supplied when Garry or Chantal write letter.
Cricket set, football, soccerball & netball donated to club from R J Woods, thankyou letter to be sent out.
All children from U8 up must PASS the pool proficiency & survival float before they can join nippers & be allowed on the beach.
Mock rescues with a possibility of seniors aid to be looked into further.
Teacher & trainer needed for kids basic first aid & CPR for kids modules to be completed. All guides, manuals available on SLS website.
All books recommended to be finished by 10th Dec, info to be entered onto surfguard by 31st Dec.
C Borthwick to be Age Manager co-ordinator, guides other age managers as to where to find out info or help with modules as needed.
Age managers encouraged to provide as much Info as possible as to what they think of new training guide, could they be better? Did they like it etc, feedback forms available on SLS website.
Need to distribute appropriate books to the age managers
Werner needs march past tape and video to look at. Werner & Chantal to attend March Past Carnival 8/9th at Coffs and course running in conjunction with it.
Consent & release forms will need to be signed for nipper of the week award so recipient can be posted on website.
C Borthwick to give M Major the photography rules & regulations for his info.
Bronze medallion info session Tuesday 21st Sept course on 21st October
Werner needs SRC workbook for U14's, having trouble finding it on website.
Is our insurance up to date? Need to check with seniors
Nippers photos to be put up on wall so kids can see themselves
Co-Join the 3 clubs (Nambucca, Urunga, North Beach) every now & then as a Sunday nippers BIG day.

Business Arising: M Sutton to confirm when available for School visits, Urunga soccer presentation 13th Sept, Bellingen done. Bello pool opens 28th Sept for registration, M Major says yes for club photographer.

Coffs Harbour club invites Urunga to attend their board training sessions if they wish.
Jetty Carnival 8:30am start
Seniors ordering two new tubes for juniors.
Nippers board room has been revamped, trailer gone and stored at M Davidson place, still to be used for carnivals etc, should it be required please contact G Howe or M Davidson.
Big push for parents to become associate members, for insurance purposes, not supposed to be invited into club rooms etc if not.
Mark Davidson to commence printing and order of swimwear and clothing for new year.
We have a board trainer from Nambucca Heads willing to take the kids, maybe one week at Urunga another week at Nambucca Heads, yet to be confirmed. See C Borthwick or M Davidson for enquiries.

Ask Ming about possible beach training for the kids during Sunday Nippers
Organise a kids medical history card for age managers to be aware of any allergies, dietary requirements etc. Garry thinks this maybe already on ‘Surfguard’. Need to check with V Nugent (registrar) if correct and can she pull a copy off.
Try to organize more involvement for the kids on the duck and boats etc, for the experience.
Trial a duty roster for age group parents eg U8’s hand out / put away boards, cook BBQ etc. To run past age managers at next meeting
Organise a Meet & Greet for Saturday 18th October at the Urunga Golf Club for members and parents. Chantal to do up a small flyer to be put on front of Surf club booklet, names to be given to Garry before 12th Oct.
Garry to by lengths of rope to measure out course distances.
Chasing Bonds re – Sponsorship of rash shirts, apparently club should have been notified that Bonds were doing it this year but didn’t happen.Now trying to find out what’s going on.
Garry attended a junior branch meeting in Sydney last weekend. It was a Member Services Junior Development Forum. It was dealing with the new Individual Development resource kit, issued by SLSA, and at this stage is yet to be signed off on. Age managers will be given working guides, with lesson planners and references for education. The nippers will receive a Passport which will stay with them for their entire nipper duration (ie U8 through to SRC) which will show proficiencies obtain during this period. Additionally they will also be able to obtain certificated awards like CPR, Resuscitation and basic first aid. We will be able to forward more information at the next meeting to further explain the new changes.
