A great turn out last Sat for the jnr/open carnival, with most clubs in our
branch represented. Well over 150 competitors from U11 through to Opens and
a few die hard Masters were met with a massive 2+metre swell on an outgoing
tide. Beach events were held first and all enjoyed a fun 8 person relay,
with a representative from each age group participating. The flags rolled
around like clock-work, and Urunga made it through the top 10 in most
events. As the day ticked on the swell increased with some huge sets not
deterring the U19 and opens from swimming out the back. The younger age
groups battled it out in a white water course which was a challenge in
itself, just ask the flag holders and water safety! BIG THANKS to all
members who again showed an awesome team effort in setting up, running the
carnival and packing up. Branch representatives were highly commending on
what an excellent, well-run and fun day it was. Feedback from a bunch of
kids from other clubs was "the best carnival they'd been to." Well
done
Urunga you can certainly be proud to be part of such a great event and Club.

Nippers
A very busy weekend for some of our Nipper's with a carnival on Saturday
and normal nippers on Sunday. Congratulations to all the nippers who
attended and participated in Saturday's carnival, it was a shame about
the conditions, but those things are out of our control. Overall the
Urunga nippers who competed showed great skills and sportsmanship in the
trying conditions. We would like to thank Mark Sutton for organising the
carnival and would like to say that it was one of the best run carnivals
that we have been too.
Conditions on Sunday were marginally improved although it was still a
difficult surf especially for those on boards. We had many firsts with
numerous nippers venturing out to the 'cans' on boards for the
first time, it was both a frightening and exhilarating experience for
both the nippers and water safety alike. Sunday also saw the first "nipper
of the week" award presented to Nicola Kollen of the U/9s for her brave
effort on the boards getting to the 'cans' and back unassisted for the
first time and confronting her fears of the big surf. Congratulations
Nicola. Things to remember Board Training Wednesday 4.30pm, Jetty
Carnival Sunday 2nd Nov and Parents Meet n Greet Saturday 8th Nov, names
to Lisa or Chantal. thanks to our sponsors Rising Tide Screen Printing
& Graphic Design and Urunga BCU.

composite teams can be made up with competitors from different clubs joining
forces to “HAVE A GO”. The main emphasis is to have a hit out and
have FUN! So come along and see what it is all about. Any members who are available
on the day to help set up and pack up would be appreciated. Contact Mark Sutton

NIPPERS
A typical day at Urunga Nippers, starts with a beautiful morning, no wind and
a gentle swell which slowly deteriorates as the wind whips up and the ocean
gets messy, but we battled through and a great day was had by all. Welcome to
all the new enrolments who arrived on Sunday, slowly but surely our numbers
are increasing. We spent the morning practising our skills in preparation for
this weekend's carnival (Saturday 25th Oct), everyone had great fun participating
on the 'M-shaped’ course, ensuring our home beach advantage. Dates to
remember for the next few weeks:- Training sessions will begin this Wednesday
22nd at Hungry Head 4.30pm, Urunga Carnival Saturday 25th (10am start, U11s
to OPENS). Normal nippers Sunday 26th. Jetty carnival Sunday 2nd Nov U8 upwards.

Another great weekend of weather saw the beach a popular destination for the
last days of the School Holidays and the first day of nippers. Congrats to
three of our ladies who participated in their first Triathlon on the
weekend, at Runaway Bay QLD. Triathlon Pink is an all women's event to raise
funds for the Breast Cancer Foundation, and the key is participation and
FUN. Lyndee Thomas, Jenny Stamel and Emma Sutton had a great time inspired
by some courageous stories and heart warming moments, they swam rode and ran
the course in excellent time. Anyone interested in next years' event talk to
the girls, it really is "do-able" for all levels, and all ages.
Saturday 25th October, URUNGA Jnr/Open Carnival, U11 to OPENs starts at
10am, any further info contact Mark Sutton. Many helpers required on the day
too please.

serious nippers stuff. The beach and water area
were a hive of activity, with a mass of swarming nippers all
splendidly decked out in their new uniforms, complete with blue and
yellow caps, and somewhere tucked amongst the throng the little green
cappers. Thanks Patrol 1 for your water assistance it was appreciated,
and a special thanks to Jenni for being a wonderful turning point.
