NIPPERS
Another large touring team travelled north to contest the Woolgoolga carnival on Sunday. It is so great to see our kids embracing the carnival/competition side of Surf Lifesaving and representing Urunga SLSC with such pride and enthusiasm. Once again our kids spirits shined through with a great day had, and many place ribbons going into the Urunga Nippers pockets. Conditions were a bit blowy, with lots of chop and decent waves few and far between, the kids had to work hard on both their swim and board legs. Urunga nippers have shown their class once again by topping the point score for the smaller clubs. Thank you to all the parents, helpers and Officials who got up extra early and helped the kids get to the carnival, if not for you the carnival wouldn't be happening. A big thank you to Craig Borthwick who took a contingent of nippers to Coffs Harbour to participate in escorting Santa into Park Beach Plaza with 100 other nippers from all over the North Coast Branch. The kids had a wonderful time, with a sand sculpture display that has to be seen to be believed. Normal nippers this Sunday except for those Nippers who are attending the Hugo Smyth Memorial in Coffs, and board training on this Wednesday.

Vale Don Kilborne.

Urunga Surf Club is saddened to hear of the recent passing away of staunch Urunga Surf Club supporter Don Kilborne. Don has been associated with the Surf Club for many years and has held the position of Club Patron for over 20 years. Urunga Surf Club sends our deepest sympathies to Betty and her family during this period of time. Don was loved by all for his generosity, his time and above all his witty character and the manner in which he would tell a joke. Don brought many a laugh and joy to our lives. Vale Don Kilborne.

Congrats to our small Masters Touring Team contingent who competed at the Scotts Head Masters on Saturday. Mark and Emma Sutton and Garry Howe finished a credible 6th in the overall pointscore out of 21 clubs. Notable wins in individual ski, swim, board and top 4 placings in team events kept us in touch with the much larger city clubs. Next Masters Carnival at Pacific Palms on Dec 6th.
Our Boaties also headed to Scotts Head for another round of the North Coast Boat Series with the Ladies crew placing well throughout both days, finishing 2nd in the final on Saturday and 3rd in final on Sunday. Two men’s crews rowed, the Masters finished 2nd in final on both days and the Reserves just enjoyed a good hit-out. The conditions were choppy with light winds and Freddy can tell you what the water temperature was like.
Many thanks to all our sponsors, including: Anchors Wharf, OVH, Water Rat River Cruises, Blacktown Workers Club, Coffs Ex Services Cub, G & M training.
Patrols this weekend, Sat 22nd Patrol 2, Sun 23rd Patrol 3.

NIPPERS
Once again our season has yet to provide us with a glorious day, but the kids are still making the most of what is given to them. The day was overcast and threatening to rain, with a shore dump that
tested the best of the kids (usually abandoning their boards before they hit it), but the braver ones had a great time catching some awesome waves testing their nerves and skills. A great day for some beach skills where flags and beach sprints came into play for the kids with a friendly game of soccer to finish yet another good day. A reminder of the Woolgoolga carnival this Sunday with an 8:30am start and nominations need to be in for the Hugo Smyth Memorial for those wishing to participate by Friday 21st Nov. No Nippers this Sunday (23rd) due to Woopi carnival. Board training on Wednesdays at 4:30pm. Our Nipper of the Week is Ryan Kononow. Ryan participated in every event with a great performance including 2nd in the flags, one of the fastest in the wade and a great showing in the sprints. Also his board skills are improving each week. Congratulations Ryan on winning the Nipper of the Week Award.

Urunga Boaties travelled to Minnie Waters for the North Coast Boat Series, the Men’s Masters Crew had a great hit-out and finished 3rd overall. The ladies crew also had a great hit-out and look forward to the next event at Scotts Head.
Our Masters touring team, represented by the Suttons, headed to Wamberal for the Nutty Masters. Typical wind and rainy conditions didn’t dampen the results with Mark proving his old local knowledge was the key to getting through the tricky and unforgiving shore dump. He won his single ski event as well as teaming up with North Entrance to win the handicapped ski relay which saw them leave the beach 67 mins after the first starters. Other good top 3 results saw Urunga finish 12th out of 16 clubs, not bad for two competitors.
THIS SATURDAY 8th Nov, is the URUNGA MASTERS CARNIVAL. The first in the North Coast Holiday Parks Masters Series, proudly sponsored by North Coast Holiday Parks, the Ocean View Hotel and Rising Tide Screen Printing. Urunga NIPPERS Touring Team had their first hit out of the season with a flat water carnival at Coffs Jetty. It was one of our strongest showings in years with approximately 25 nippers. It was the first carnival for many of the children, but that didn't stop them from giving it all they had and many brought home their first carnival ribbons. Once again our young nippers showed they can mix with with the larger clubs and more than hold their own with their skills, which showed in the many placing's our kids acquired. The conditions were a bit overcast with a small swell to contest, but a very good day for the nippers to become accustomed to a carnival environment. We would like to say congratulations to all the nippers who competed you did your club proud with your efforts and sportsmanship. Thank you to all the Urunga Officials, Water Safety and Team Managers who came to help out and support our kids on the day. A reminder that this Sunday is a normal nippers day and our Meet & Greet is on Sat Night hope to see you all there. Urunga Juniors would like to thank our sponsors Buttercup Bakery and Bellingen Newsagency.
