The Branch Carnival at Hungry Head on Sunday 28th March held a memorial service
for Saxon Bird of Queenscliffe Surf Club.
Last Sunday, 28th March, Urunga Surf Club held the Branch Carnival at Hungry
Head Beach. All competitors held a Minute’s Silence at 11 O'clock as a
mark of respect for young Saxon Bird of Queenscliffe Surf Club who was tragically
killed whilst competing at the Australian Surf Titles at Kurrawa a week and
a half ago. All competitors then paddled out on their boards and joined hands
to form a ring whilst 19 red roses were scattered in the ocean. A very moving
service indeed and all Surf Clubs who were present on the day wish to extend
their sympathy to family and friends of Saxon.
We are having a BBQ and Drinks on Sunday 11th April at 1pm for all Club members.
It is an opportunity for all Club members to discuss the future of Urunga Surf
Club and how we can improve our operations and be more effective, and to have
their concerns listened to. A short presentation by our President and Club Captain
will be followed by a discussion with members.
What beautiful weather we had over the weekend allowing the Branch Carnival
to go off without a hitch. Lots of members from Sawtell, Coffs & Woolgoolga
travelled to compete in perfect conditions. A big thank you to our competing
members and our volunteers who helped with the set-up and running of the carnival
- without you, the carnival would not have been such a success.
A Bronze Medallion Course will commence this Sunday, 4th April. If you are
interested in doing this course, or would love to attend, but unable to make
the first session, please ring Phil McGuiggan 6655 4324, as we would love to
have you come on board.
